Texas Car / Permit practice question · Speed & Space Management
Even when you are within the posted speed limit, Texas law says you must:
Answer choices
- never drive below the posted limit
- keep pace with the fastest cars
- slow down when rain, traffic, or other conditions make that speed unsafe— Correct answer
- stay only in the left lane
Why this is the answer
A posted limit is a maximum designed for normal driving conditions. During heavy traffic, bad weather, low visibility or other poor conditions, you must adjust both your speed and your following distance to avoid a crash. So driving exactly at the limit can still be unsafe, and keeping pace with the fastest traffic does not excuse it.
