DMV Test Free

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2, 2026

Introduction & data collection philosophy

DMV Test Free is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

By default, DMV Test Free is designed to let you practice anonymously. Your quiz results are stored only on your own device (in your browser's local storage) — we do not receive or store them on our servers unless you choose to create an account.

What information we collect

Anonymous usage: if you use DMV Test Free without signing in, we do not collect personal information. Your quiz results, progress, and practice history remain on your device only.

Optional accounts: if you choose to create an account using our passwordless email sign-in, we collect and store your email address, your quiz attempt history (which test you took, your score, pass/fail status, and date), and your language preference. This lets your progress sync across your devices.

Third-party services: our service providers — Supabase, our web host, and our advertising partner Google (through Google AdSense) — may collect certain technical information as part of providing their services.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to provide and maintain the service, enable your account and sync your progress across devices (if you sign in), improve and personalize your experience, comply with legal obligations, and protect against fraud and misuse.

Cookies and advertising

We use functional cookies to remember your language preference and to maintain your session if you sign in; these are not used for advertising. To keep DMV Test Free free to use, we also display ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve personalized ads to you.

We use Google Analytics (with IP-anonymization and Google Consent Mode) to measure traffic and understand how the site is used. If you are outside the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, analytics cookies are enabled by default and you may opt out at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer. If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland, analytics cookies are not set unless you accept them in the cookie banner.

In regulated regions (including the EU, UK, and California), we display a consent management prompt (CMP) so you can accept or decline personalized advertising before ads are served. You can change your choice at any time via the privacy/consent link in the CMP.

To opt out of personalized advertising more broadly, visit Google Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com), the Digital Advertising Alliance (https://www.aboutads.info), or Your Online Choices for EU/UK residents (https://www.youronlinechoices.eu). For more information about how Google uses data when you use our site, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and Google's advertising policies at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Our mobile app (PermitPilot for iOS)

We also offer PermitPilot, a free iOS app for DMV practice tests, operated by the same team and covered by this Privacy Policy. As on the web, you can use the app anonymously — your quiz history is stored on your device and is not sent to us unless you create an account.

Accounts in the app work the same way as on the web: if you sign in (with Sign in with Apple or a passwordless email code), we store your email address, your quiz attempt history, and your preferences in Supabase to sync your progress. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly inside the app — open the Progress tab and choose “Delete account” — which permanently removes your account and quiz history from our systems.

To keep the app free, PermitPilot shows ads from Google AdMob. These ads are non-personalized: we do not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt and do not track you across apps or websites. AdMob may use a device identifier to deliver, frequency-cap, and measure ads (including via Apple's SKAdNetwork). Where required (for example, in the EEA and the UK), the app presents a Google-provided consent form before ads are shown. For more information, see Google's advertising policies at https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads and how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

The app also uses Google Analytics for Firebase to help us understand how its features are used — for example, which practice topics are started and completed. This includes usage events (such as quiz starts, completions, and screens viewed), general device information, and an approximate location derived from your IP address (never your precise location). This data is not used to track you across other companies' apps or websites, and it is not shared with advertisers to personalize ads. Where a regional consent form is required, analytics in the app runs only after that form has been resolved.

Service providers & data sharing

We share information with Supabase (database and authentication), our web hosting provider, and Google (advertising through Google AdSense on the web and Google AdMob in the iOS app, and analytics through Google Analytics and Google Analytics for Firebase). These providers are expected to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

We do not sell or share your personal information for money or other valuable consideration. Under CCPA/CPRA, you have the right to know whether we engage in such practices — we do not.

Your data rights

GDPR (EU, UK, EEA): if you are located in the EU, UK, or EEA, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict processing of, obtain a copy of, or object to processing of your personal data.

CCPA/CPRA (California): if you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and used, to delete your personal information (with limited exceptions), and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your information (which we do not engage in).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@thebandindex.com. We will respond within 30 days or as otherwise required by law.

Data retention, security & children

Anonymous quiz results stored in your browser are retained until you clear your local storage. Account data is retained while your account is active; you can delete your account by emailing support@thebandindex.com. Cookies are retained per your browser settings.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no internet transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

DMV Test Free is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we become aware of such a collection, we will take steps to delete the information and terminate the account.

Changes & contact

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the new version on this page and updating the last-updated date. Your continued use constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
