California Car / Permit practice question · Road Signs
You approach a white rectangular sign reading 'NO TURN ON RED'. What does it tell you to do?
Answer choices
- You may not turn while the traffic signal is red.— Correct answer
- Trucks are not allowed on this road.
- Do not enter the road or ramp from this direction.
- Keep to the right of a median, island, or obstruction.
Why this is the answer
After a complete stop at a red light, you may turn right unless a NO TURN ON RED sign is posted. The sign means you may not turn while the signal is red, even if the way looks clear. A red arrow is stricter still: you may not turn right until the light changes to green.
