Texas Car / Permit practice question · Traffic Laws

Texas seat belt law requires that:

Answer choices

  • the driver and every passenger be buckled, in both front and back seats— Correct answer
  • only the driver wear a seat belt
  • only front-seat riders buckle up
  • seat belts are optional for adults in the back seat

Why this is the answer

Texas requires the driver and all passengers, whatever their age, to use safety belts in a passenger vehicle that has them, and that includes pickups, SUVs and trucks. So back-seat riders are covered just like the front. A child under 8 must also be in a federally approved car seat unless taller than 4 feet 9 inches.
