Texas Car / Permit practice question · Road Signs
A yellow diamond-shaped sign showing a car with wavy skid marks is posted ahead. What does it mean?
Answer choices
- The road is slippery when wet; slow down and avoid hard braking.— Correct answer
- A traffic signal is ahead; prepare to slow or stop.
- Deer may cross the road ahead; be alert, especially at dawn and dusk.
- The road curves gently ahead in the direction shown.
Why this is the answer
This warning tells you to slow down on a wet road and not to suddenly turn, speed up or stop. Wet pavement is slippery, so quick moves can make the car skid. The sign is not about a signal ahead, animals on the road, or a gentle curve. Easing off the gas and steering smoothly are what the sign asks.
