1. A bus driver who must stop at a railroad crossing should bring the bus to a halt:
Correct answer: Between 15 and 50 feet before the crossing
That window keeps you close enough to see down the track yet far enough back to stay clear of a passing train. Stop there, open the door to listen if it helps, and check in both directions.
2. You are driving a bus toward a drawbridge that has no signal light and nobody directing traffic. You must:
Correct answer: Stop no less than 50 feet ahead of the draw and check that it is fully closed
With nothing controlling traffic, the stop is entirely on you. Halt well back from the draw and confirm with your own eyes that the span is down before you move onto it.
3. A transit coach has a brake and accelerator interlock that holds the brakes on whenever the rear door is opened. A driver may:
Correct answer: Use it as designed, but still set the parking brake when one is needed
The interlock is a convenience for loading, not a stand-in for the parking brake. It lets go the moment the rear door closes, so anything beyond a passenger stop calls for the real brake.
4. Your vehicle is stopped on the shoulder of a road. How soon must your emergency warning devices be out?
Correct answer: Within ten minutes
The rule gives you ten minutes from the moment you stop to get the reflectors, flares or cones into position. Anything slower leaves approaching traffic with no warning at all.
5. Every time a school bus stops to pick up or drop off students, the driver should:
Correct answer: Set the parking brake and put the transmission in Park, or Neutral if there is no Park position
Securing the bus at each stop keeps it from creeping while children are in the danger zones. Park, or Neutral where there is no Park position, plus the parking brake is the routine, alongside the flashing red lamps and the stop arm.
6. You are dropping a trailer that has no spring brakes, or you are not certain whether it has them. Before you pull the tractor away you must:
Correct answer: Chock the trailer wheels
Air bleeds out of the trailer tank over time, and once it does the emergency brakes let go. Chocks are the only thing left holding that trailer in place after you leave.
7. When you park a commercial vehicle and leave the cab, you should always:
Correct answer: Set the parking brake, and chock the wheels on a grade
Apply the parking brake whenever you leave the vehicle, and chock the wheels on a grade if needed, so the vehicle cannot roll. A heavy vehicle that rolls away can cause serious damage or injury.

8. Parking or stopping on the shoulder of a highway is:
Correct answer: Something to avoid except in an emergency
Avoid stopping on the shoulder except in a true emergency. Traffic passes fast and a parked truck is a hazard. If you must stop there, get as far off the road as possible, use your flashers, and set out warning triangles.

9. You have pulled off the highway and stopped your truck at the roadside. Before anything else you should:
Correct answer: Switch on the four-way emergency flashers
Drivers have run into parked rigs because the taillights fooled them into thinking the truck was still rolling. Flashers say plainly that you are not moving, and they matter most after dark.
10. While you walk down the shoulder to set out your reflective triangles, you should carry them:
Correct answer: Between your body and the traffic coming toward you
The reflective face works for you as well as for the truck. Carrying it on the traffic side puts something bright between you and the vehicles bearing down while you walk.
