1. Your driving privilege has just been suspended. How quickly must you tell the company you drive for?
Correct answer: Within two business days
A suspension, revocation, cancellation or disqualification has to reach your employer within two business days. Convictions for ordinary traffic offenses carry their own, longer reporting deadline.
2. A CDL holder's privilege to drive a personal vehicle is revoked over traffic-law convictions. What becomes of the commercial privilege?
Correct answer: It goes as well, and no hardship permit is available for driving a commercial vehicle
Losing the personal driving privilege takes the commercial one down with it. A restricted or hardship permit cannot be used to keep working behind the wheel of a commercial vehicle.

3. You are applying for a job as a commercial driver. What employment history must you provide?
Correct answer: Details of all driving jobs from the previous ten years
A ten-year account of the driving jobs you have held is part of the application. Leaving positions off it can cost you the job and bring penalties as well.
4. Which of these counts as a serious traffic violation for a CDL holder?
Correct answer: Exceeding the posted limit by 15 mph or more
Speeding by 15 mph or more over the posted limit sits on the serious-violation list beside reckless driving, erratic lane changes and following too closely. Collecting two of them within three years costs you the commercial privilege for a time.

5. What do the rules require of a driver's safety belt use in a commercial motor vehicle?
Correct answer: It must be fastened the whole time you are operating the vehicle
The belt keeps you behind the wheel and able to steer during a crash, and a driver thrown from the cab is far more likely to be killed. There is no short-trip or local-delivery exception.
6. A Florida CDL holder picks up a speeding ticket while driving the family car. May they elect driver improvement school to keep the points off?
Correct answer: No, that option is closed to CDL holders whichever vehicle was involved
Florida closes that election to commercial license holders, and it makes no difference whether the citation was written in a truck or in a personal car. The points are assessed either way.
7. Which action would violate the federal handheld-phone rule for a commercial driver?
Correct answer: Holding the phone to your ear to make a call
Holding a phone to dial or talk, or reaching for one in an unsafe position, is prohibited for CMV drivers. Hands-free use — a mounted phone, one-button answering, or a headset — is allowed, and texting is never allowed.
8. Under current federal rules, how may a CDL driver legally use a mobile phone while driving a commercial motor vehicle?
Correct answer: Only hands-free, without holding, dialing, or reaching for the phone
Federal rules bar holding, dialing, or reaching for a handheld phone while driving a CMV. You may only make a call hands-free, using a device that lets you press a single button while staying properly seated and belted. Violations bring fines and can lead to disqualification.
9. Dispatch assigns you a trailer load that has to be placarded. What do the rules require of you?
Correct answer: You may not take the trip unless your license carries the hazardous materials endorsement
Hazardous freight in quantities small enough to travel without placards may be hauled on an ordinary CDL. Once placards go on, the hazardous materials endorsement is required too, and driving without it puts your license and your livelihood at risk.
10. What does the law mean for a CDL holder who wants to text while driving a commercial vehicle?
Correct answer: Texting behind the wheel is prohibited
Texting while driving is prohibited, and federal rules bar CDL holders from texting or holding a phone while operating a CMV. Distraction sharply raises crash risk for a large vehicle.
